Insiders are saying the famously reclusive studio boss (himself a filmmaker) has had a falling out with his blue-eyed boy, a talented young director whom he actively promoted over other directors on the studio’s roster.

Story goes that the younger director, who is also producing smaller films for the studio, was not impressed with one of the projects he’s been entrusted with supervising. He is believed to have expressed his disappointment after viewing the first edit of the film,and minced no words to describe just what a mess he believed the film was looking like.

This response has apparently not gone down well with his boss, who dismissed the younger filmmaker’s misgivings about the film. One could argue that the senior filmmaker is especially invested in this film for personal reasons, but he has quashed the younger filmmaker’s complaints saying the film has a strong mainstream sensibility which the younger filmmaker has failed to connect with because of his ‘artistic’ leanings.

It’s all very civil on the face of it, but sources say the incident has driven a wedge between the men and that the damage may be irreparable.

A senior female actor, a firebrand feminist, has reportedly led an initiative to reach out to the Prime Minister, objecting to the manner in which protestors threatened physical violence against the leading lady of a controversial Hindi film.

The veteran actress got a strongly worded letter drafted by a Supreme Court lawyer and sent it around to other top actors, asking them to sign and put their weight behind it. Apparently, several female stars have put their name to the letter—both senior actors, and current-day leading ladies. Only three are believed to have politely declined.

The second, a top star, dithered and delayed, saying she needed to consult her lawyer, but didn’t get back in time. The arrest earlier this week of a well-connected suburban ‘fixer’, who was picked up after the cops seized drugs worth lakhs of rupees from his home, has reportedly sent a wave of panic among some film folk. Rumour has it that the police now have in their possession two cellphones belonging to the accused, which could help them identify high-profile clients he has been supplying to. The accused was reportedly under the scanner since his arrest five years ago at a Juhu party where he is believed to have supplied recreational drugs to dozens of film and sports celebrities.

It is well known that the accused and his brother run a popular DVD library in Mumbai, and that many top stars and filmmakers are members of the library, frequently showing up to rent films. A simple Google search will throw up multiple photographs of the accused with leading actors at his library. The cops are now said to be investigating whether the accused might have been supplying more than just DVDs to film personalities.

Sources within Bollywood say the accused lost many of his film world clients after his last arrest, but those he continued to supply are currently sweating in the fear of being identified. A young director with close ties to a top male star is said to have deleted all evidence of any contact with the accused from his phone. An upcoming actor with a producer sibling is also apparently distancing himself from the accused for fear of being linked.

The producer is probably uneasy because, it was this superstar who played a big role in taking his studio to where it is today. The superstar starred in several hits produced by his studio.
